Susan Tidyman

Susan TidymanSusan Cummins Tidyman, a former high school and community college English teacher, is the State and Regional Coordinator for the Career Academy Support Network (CASN) in the Graduate School of Education, University of California, Berkeley. Susan works with districts around the country including Seattle, Washington; Columbus, Ohio; Greece, New York; St. Louis, Missouri, South Grand Prairie, Texas; Manatee County, Florida; Jacksonville, Florida; Ridgewood, New Jersey; and several schools in Idaho and Hawaii. From the California base, she is responsible for collecting materials to support academy and smaller learning community implementation, including mentor programs, internships, partnerships, project based learning and learning communities.

Susan is a co-author of Implementing Career Academies School wide, Four Case Studies, a study of issues and best practices based on the experiences of four high schools working to divide their staff and students into separate themed academies.

Prior to her CASN role, Susan was a consultant for the California Department of Education, where she directed program planning, and the expansion of Career Academies in that state. With her guidance Academies in California grew in numbers from 45 in 1993 to nearly 300 today.

Susan is Vice-President of the National Career Academy Coalition and a Faculty Associate for the George Lucas Education Foundation.
